Companies across the globe can chose to set up in London offices for free. In an initiative created to tackle the problem of empty office blocks in the English capital Mayor Boris Johnston is hoping to cash in on lower cost of living rate and the devalued pound. The Think London project was announced at a conference on property in the south of France.
Usually the town of Cannes is more used to film stars than politicians although Mr. Johnston has a charismatic and often outspoken media persona. He has the full support of all political opponents and the financial backing of the London Development agency in this new initiative.
The rent free offices are for a year and will cover the cost of two, at a maximum of £ 150,000. With the staging of the Olympic games in 2012, the mayor knows that the timing couldn’t be better to launch this innovative project.
The Think London agency will also offer companies a dedicate advisor to help them get up and running. These professionals will ensure that London can be fully appreciated as the commerce capitals of the world. Businesses from Overseas will be able to see the advantages that London has to offer. If however, renting desk space is what you’re looking for, take a look at Desk Space Genie, a website dedicated to desk rental.
If the project is the success that Mayor Boris is hoping, we might see other European cities use similar ploys to attract new business to their districts. Unfortunately the problem of lowering income from expensive office blocks has a knock on effect on the whole economy.
