Many misconceptions surround the Free Mason society - oftentimes negative allegations of a network of professionals giving each other secret business transactions, or yet more wicked hints. Still, in reality Freemasonry is a wholesome cause encouraging self-reformation and helping others. Freemasonry offers an opportunity for gentlemen to congregate and partake in affable fellowship. Improving oneself is a fundamental facet of being a freemason. Freemasonry promotes assisting other individuals as well, and charity is a tangible way in which members help those.

One of Freemasonry’s rules is not to actively seek out new members. Yet, any individual should feel uninhibited to approach any current member to get more information about the Craft.

Membership is for males only, over 18 years of age, and you should meet the standards of reputation, should be of good moral character, and have faith in the existence of a supreme being.

A male who desires to join a lodge has to be recommended by 3 members of the lodge he wishes to become a member in. He must realise that his character and reputation will be enquired about. After commendation by the fellow members of that lodge, he will be admitted as a candidate for membership in the Free Mason society.

Masons frequently adorn accessories such as football pin badges which subtly identify their member status to other members and also convey the lodge they are a member of.
