A Basic Introduction to End of Life Care

End of life care, otherwise known as palliative health care is any kind of health treatment or care which focuses on scaling down the severity of disease symptoms, instead of trying to stop, or reverse advancement of the disease. The goal is to stop and ameliorate suffering while bettering the quality of life for patients suffering from chronic illness.

Yet, not all end of life care hospices are identical in the quality they provide, and there’s been plenty of insinuations (and established cases) of negligence (and even mistreatment) happening in hospitals that contribute to individuals enduring great pain and discomfort over drawn-out time periods. For example an accusation is made against NHS Palliative Care in Sheffield who are accused of carelessness with a particular patient they were caring for, with particulars of correspondences between the patient’s close relative and the hospital.

So we can’t take such care for granted - family and friends of a person going into a hosptial ought to be vigilant and make sure their family member or friend receives proper treatment.

If your friend or family member is getting care via the NHS, there’s an NHS complaints procedure you can observe should you wish to make a criticism.
